Labor Day Weekend Events

Friday August 29, 2003
The last big holiday weekend of the summer is here. Unfortunately after a couple of nice weekends the weather forecast is not that good for this weekend. Even so, there's lots going on this weekend in the Greater Philadelphia/South Jersey area.

If it's Labor Day weekend, it has to be time for the annual Arden Town Fair and Antique Market. This year's fair is the 96th annual event which brings thousands of people to this small town right across the Delaware border. This year's Arden Fair Art Show at the 96th Annual Fair will feature the work of three Arden artists. This year the artists are David McClintock, Roberta Perkins and Danny Schweers.

The Philadelphia Fringe Festival opens today and will run through September 13, 2003. This is the 7th annual event which seems to grow better and larger every year. This year over 231 shows/events will be included in the festival including eight "Spotlight Shows." The festival brings the most provocative and exciting new works by artists in all fields of the performing arts to Philadelphia.

The Winterthur Craft Festival will take place Saturday and Sunday. Celebrate American craftsmanship at this invitational show featuring more than 100 artists working in contemporary and traditional crafts. Demonstrations, children's entertainment, and a Saturday evening concert and fireworks.

The annual Philadelphia Labor Day Parade will begin at 10:00 AM Monday from 1301 S. Columbus Blvd. and proceed north on Columbus to the Festival Pier at Spring Garden Street for a celebration and entertainment. For information call 215-665-9800

On Monday the Labor Day Weekend Concert Extravaganza featuring the Philadelphia Boys Choir and Peter Nero and the Philly Pops and a Fireworks Extravaganza will take place on the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing.
