Philadelphia 76ers Trade Team Captain Eric Snow

Tuesday July 20, 2004
The Philadelphia 76ers have acquired forward Kedrick Brown and guard Kevin Ollie from the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for 76ers guard and team captain Eric Snow. The deal is contingent upon all players passing physicals.

Ollie returns to the 76ers for the third time, having played in Philadelphia during both the 1999-00 and 2000-2001 seasons. The University of Connecticut product has posted career averages of 4.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists in his seven-year NBA career. Ollie, 31, has played for 10 NBA teams, including Chicago, Dallas, Indiana, Milwaukee, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Orlando, Sacramento and Seattle prior to his one-season stay with the Cavaliers.

Brown is entering his fourth season in the NBA. He was the 11th selection in the 2001 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics. He has averaged 3.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.7 assists throughout his career. He was traded to Cleveland from Boston along with Tony Battie and Eric Williams for Ricky Davis, Chris Mihm, Michael Stewart and a second round pick on Dec. 15, 2003.

Snow, a nine-year NBA veteran, averaged 10.3 points, 6.9 assists and 3.4 rebounds last season and has averages of 8.1 points, 5.5 assists and 2.7 rebounds for his career. In 2003-04, he ranked in the top 10 in the NBA in three categories, including 5th in total assists (563), 6th in assists per game (6.9) and 7th in assists-to-turnovers ratio (3.01:1).

Clearly the purpose of the deal was to free up playing time for several of the younger 76ers players. "Eric was a great captain and a great leader for us and I wish him the best of luck," said 76ers President and General Manager Billy King. "This deal will give our younger players an opportunity to play. Kevin is a solid player who will give us the leadership we need in the backcourt, and Kedrick is a developing young player who will add more depth to our bench."
