Local Sellersville, PA Boy Dies on Walt Disney Epcot Center Ride

Tuesday June 14, 2005
A young boy from Sellersville, PA died Monday afternoon after riding on Walt Disney Epcot Center's $100 million "Mission: Space" ride. Daudi Bamuwamye, 4, had ridden on the ride along with his mother and eight-year-old sister. This was not the first time that an incident has occurred on this same ride. MSNBC reports that other riders have reported feeling ill following the ride. In one eight month period in 2003-4, six people over age 55 were hospitalized complaining of chest pain and nausea.

Two of our About.com Guides have reviewed this Walt Disney World ride. You can read their opinions of this attraction:

It's a Small Solar System After All by About's Theme Park Guide Arthur Levine

Is there an inherent defect in this ride? Should it be permanently shut down? The ride was opened again today for visitors. Only time will tell what caused this local boy's tragic death.

What do you think? Are we risking our own lives and those of our families on these ever more wild rides? Share your thoughts in our Philadelphia Forum.
