Philadelphia Smoking Ban Now in Effect

The Philadelphia law banning smoking in many public places has gone into effect as of today.

The law mandates that smoking in prohibited inside:
  • all workplaces
  • galleries
  • sports facilities
  • restaurants and most bars
The law mandates that smoking in prohibited outside:
  • of all of the above locations, up to 20 feet from all entrances
The following are exempt from the ban:
  • outdoor cafes
  • private clubs
  • bars that that derive at least 90 percent of their income from drinks (waiver required)
Fines for violating the law range from $25 to $300.

I like the idea of a smoking ban. My mom has emphysema, and now she ahtes it when people smoke around her.
