Happy 302nd Birthday, Ben!

Sunday January 13, 2008
Thursday marks the 302nd birthday for Benjamin Franklin. No Philadelphian of Colonial times is better known than Benjamin Franklin. His name and spirit live on in so many places in the Greater Philadelphia area.

Ben was the most widely known and easily recognized American of his day. Franklin's life took him from a career in printing and writing to a life of scientific research, and finally, to the diplomatic arena where he helped found and later served the new nation - The United States of America.

(1) Jackson Shellenberger says:

Good Call, Mr Fischer! I was extremely fortunate to be part of the Ben Franklin annual march from the Library of the American Philosophical Society to Christ Church Burial Ground up the street. Both the American Philosophical Society and the Library Company of Philadelphia were founded by Ben. I was also lucky to be standing right next to the speakers who honored Mr. Franklin, including many distinguished current Philadelphians, not the least of which was the new mayor, Mr. Michael Nutter. Not to take up too much space here, but I am hoping to find some pictures of the event if you come across any, let me know! In the meantime, come visit us at the museum in the original 1789 building made for the APS’ meetings. Check out the website and feel free to contact me for more information!
