City Food Tours' "So Long to Summer” Food Tour
Tuesday August 19, 2008
City Food Tours' "So Long to Summer” Food Tour will be held on Sunday, August 31, starting at 3:30 p.m. at XIX (Nineteen) at the Park Hyatt Philadelphia at The Bellevue, Broad and Walnut streets. This 2˝-hour tour, in Center City Philadelphia, features tastings that include three summertime favorites—great barbecue, refreshing mixed drinks and the freshest seafood—with a sophisticated twist.
I've attended similar tours elsewhere in the USA and they are a great way to experience some restaurants that you might otherwise never visit. For a surprisingly reasonable amount of money, you get to taste the offerings of some of the region's top chefs and mixologists.
This celebration of the best of summer begins in the lavish and luxurious setting of XIX at the top of the Park Hyatt Philadelphia at The Bellevue, where guests will be treated to a sampling of fresh seafood that tastes like its straight from the shore. Guest will sample opulent treasures from the sea including oysters, mussels, and scallops, and have the opportunity to talk to world-class chefs and ask questions about preparing seafood dishes at home.
The group will then walk just a few blocks to Tavern 17, in the historic Radisson-Warwick Plaza Hotel Philadelphia, where a tasting flight of several summer-inspired mixed drinks awaits. Tavern 17's bartender will demonstrate how to prepare the drinks and provide tips on making fun, thirst-quenching concoctions at home.
The tour will continue at Chima Brazilian Steakhouse for a barbeque experience that will leave your backyard grill feeling a bit inadequate. While sampling a variety of succulent meats grilled to perfection and exploring the history and culture of Southern Brazil, chefs will offer tips on becoming king of the grill.
Advanced reservations are required and can be made online at www.cityfoodtours.com or by calling 800-979-3370. Tickets are $45.00 per person including all food and beverage tastes. Gift certificates for this and other tours are also available by calling 215-360-1996.
City Food Tours also offers a 3-stop Center City Food Lovers' Tour on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and on Sundays at 3 p.m. for $29 per person. It includes three stops with tastings of imported cheeses, decadent chocolates and either exotic teas or estate coffees.
