An Eagles Tie - A No-Decision Game for a No-Decision Team
Sunday November 16, 2008
Being in Hawaii the past two weekends has both its plusses and minuses for an Eagles fan.
One plus is that I didn't have to see what were to real stinkers. The loss against the New York Giants at home was hard to swallow, but understandable considering how well the Giants have played this season. The tie against the Bengals was unbearable. There is no way except for four turnovers by Donovan McNabb that the Eagles should not have clobbered the lowly Bengals.
Following the Bengals game on my iPhone while driving to the North Shore of Kauai, I had my wife reading the plays off to me, especially during the overtime period. The inability of the Eagles offense to move the ball was unbelievable.
I actually got to a point where I was hoping that the Bengals would just kick the winning field goal to put the Eagles out of their misery. At 5-5, the season would have been over. At 5-4-1 the Eagles are left in NFL limbo. There's no chance that they'll end the season tied with any other NFC team.
A tie against the Bengals was the perfect ending, however. It reflects the current state of the Eagles. They're not good enough to win a playoff spot and not bad enough to get a high first round draft pick. The Eagles are a team in limbo and will likely remain that way until Jeffrey Lurie decides to put an end to the Any Reid/Donovan McNabb era. Let's hope that day comes soon.

The Eagles are just mediocre .No doubt there will be some changes next year. After two weekends in Hawaii, it must have been great to get back to the coldness of Philly.
