Vikings Down, Eagles Head to the Meadowlands Against the New York Giants

Sunday January 4, 2009
A few weeks ago no one would have expected that the Eagles would make the playoffs, much less be one of the four teams left alive in the NFC.

Today's win over the Minnesota Vikings was not easy. The offense struggled in the first and the defense played alright, but not as well as they have in recent weeks.

The game all changed with a short screen pass to Brian Westbrook which went 71 yards for a touchdown to break what was a close game wide open. Once the Eagles opened the lead to 9 points, it was time for the Eagles defense to take charge as everyone knew that the Vikings would be passing the ball on almost every play.

Donovan McNabb played a solid, if not spectacular game. His one interception was on a long pass which didn't cause any harm. Who called that stupid play on third and one when the Vikings defensive line was not even set and a run would have easily resulted in a first down? McNabb's other turnover was on a called forced fumble which clearly looked like his hand was going forward in a pass.

Next week it's back to the Meadowlands for a rematch with the New York Giants. The Eagles split the season series with the Giants with each team winning in the other's home field. The Giants beat the Eagles in Philadelphia 36-31 and just a few weeks ago, the Eagles beat the Giants 20-14 at the Meadowlands.

Can the Eagles beat the Giants next Sunday? Absolutely. The Giants struggled down the stretch after the Plaxico Burress incident and suspension. The key player next week is sure to be Brian Westbrook. He has a history of great performances against the Giants and the Eagles will need another one next weekend in order to advance to the NFC Championship Game.
