Mt. Airy is a neighborhood in the Northwest corner of Philadelphia. Mount Airy is a mostly residential neighborhood, situated next to Wissahickon park the neighborhood is especially wooded for a metropolitan area. The neighborhood was named for a mansion built in 1750 by William Allen, a wealthy merchant, attorney and Chief Justice of the Province of Pennsylvania. Much of Mt. Airy was developed in the late 19th and early 20th century. The area is comprised of many large gray stone Victorian homes on tree lined streets.
