John's Philadelphia / S. Jersey BlogPhiladelphia Area Man Poised to Win CBS's Big Brother 9The current season of CBS's Big Brother entitled Big Brother 9 - Till Death Do You Part ends this Sunday when a jury of seven former housemates will choose between the two final residents of the Big Brother House to award $500,000 to the winner and $50,000 to the second place finisher.
The two finalists are 29 year-old former Cherry Hill, NJ resident Adam "Baller" Jasinski and 27 year-old Ohio resident Ryan Quicksall. Both have survived a three month residency inside the Big Brother House in Los Angeles, California where their every move is broadcast live over the Internet and shown three times a week on CBS TV and every night on Showtime. CBS's Big Brother reality series is never short on controversy. This season's first, and biggest controversy, involved Jasinski and comments he made early on during the show's three month run involving a job he held as public relations manager for the United Autism Foundation in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. In a discussion with his designated "soul mate", 1983 Penthouse Pet of the Year, Sheila Kennedy, Jasinski stated a future desire "to do a hair salon for kids with special needs so retards can get it together and get their hair done." Not surprisingly, CBS was inundated with complaints and it is reported that Jasinski was fired from his job, although other reports show that the job was actually completed in January 2008. Jasinski has been the subject of numerous Internet and tabloid rumors since the show first aired in February. Star Magazine reported in their February 28 issue that while attending Parson's School of Design in New York City in 2004, Jasinski was arrested "after taking possession of an Airborne Express package containing more than 10 pounds of pot." Other unconfirmed reports indicate that Jasinski, who holds a master's degree in fashion design/marketing may actually be independently wealthy and that he may have actually been recruited to appear on the CBS show. With that as background the questions on many fan's minds is who will win Big Brother 9 and who should win Big Brother 9. My answer in both cases is Adam "Baller" Jasinski. Before you start sending me nasty emails, let me explain my thinking. Big Brother is not a scripted TV program. It involves real people interacting with other real people in a confined and stressful environment. For those who haven't noticed, people say stupid things - everyday. It was the Big Brother production staff who elected to air Jasinski's comments on their prime time show. As someone who watches the live feeds as well as Showtime After Dark, equally stupid and offensive comments are made quite often by Big Brother housemates. These are not perfect people. They are not professional actors. They have no scripts. The point is that Big Brother Housemates often forget that the camera is on them 24-7. Would you actually pick your nose or rub your crotch if you remembered that you were being filmed? Therefore, as insensitive as Jasinski's "retard" remarks were, I'm not going to hold that against him in determining a winner. Both Jasinski and Ryan Quicksall played excellent games. They remained loyal to each other throughout the game and were clever enough to make other side deals which helped them make the final two. Jasinski will win because he showed that he had better people skills than Quicksall. He made fewer enemies among those who will not determine his fate. He actually showed that he can be quite kind and generous such as when he gave Sheila a $10,000 cash prize (which another contestant subsequently took from her.) We'll know Sunday night whether Jasinski wins this season's big prize. Perhaps someday we'll learn the truth about some of the other rumors we've been hearing. All in all though, it's good to see a Philadelphia area contestant make it to the finals of a network reality show.
