Peddler's Village bills itself as "an 18th-century style attraction featuring 75 quality specialty shops and restaurants, a 66 room luxury inn, year round festivals and craft competitions, plus and antique operating carousel, all set on 42 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds and winding brick pathways."
Earl Hart Jamison, founded Peddler's Village in 1962 on six acres of property once known as Hentown. His family's tradition in the lodging and entertainment industry dates back to 1752 when his family first established an inn in Buckingham Township, close to the present site of Peddler's Village.
Earl was inspired to follow his own dream while on a trip to California, when he saw the beautiful village of Carmel on the Monterey Peninsula. Carmel served as the model for his shopping and dining complex. Earl then proceeded to transform what was once was a chicken hatchery, barn and a grouping of chicken coops into 14 shops and the Cock 'n Bull Restaurant. The Village has continued to grow ever since.
The Christmas season is a wonderful time to visit Peddler's Village, as the area is attractively decorated for the holidays. There are so many shops offering unique gifts not easily found elsewhere, that a day at Peddler's Village is sure to help you solve many of those holiday gift dilemmas. While you're there be sure to stop by the Grand Carousel where Santa is present to entertain the children.
You should also be sure to stop at the gazebo to see the gingerbread house display, photos of which are included in this article.
A lunch or dinner at one of the restaurants is also well worth consideration. On our recent visit my wife and I had a wonderful lunch at the Cock 'N Bull Restaurant where I ordered one of the classic house specialties, the Chicken Pot Pie and my wife had an excellent stuffed flounder.
