Salsa on the Parkway

Monday July 4

Let Freedom Ring Ceremony

At the annual Let Freedom Ring ceremony in Philadelphia, America will hear the first ringing of the Normandy Bell, cast as an exact replica of the Liberty Bell. The Normandy Bell is a gift from the French to commemorate the 60th anniversary of D-Day. The ringing will follow the annual tapping of the Liberty Bell by four children descended from signers of the Declaration of Independence. The ceremony features music and entertainment by the Philadelphia Boys Choir; the Navy Ceremonial Band from Washington, D.C.; composer and singer Kay Seamayer; Second Pennsylvania Regiment and the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, among others. The event dates back to a 1963 Joint Resolution of Congress officially authorizing a national bell-ringing ceremony.

Southwest Airlines 4th of July Parade

The Southwest Airlines 4th of July Parade is a patriotic salute to the spirit of America. You’ll love the bands, music, drill teams, bigger than life balloon characters, floats and special tribute to the United States Army. Nearly 100 groups and organizations will be part of the procession. The Southwest Airlines High School Honor Band makes its premiere, featuring the regions most talented young musicians.

Sunoco Philadelphia Freedom Concert Featuring Elton John

Be on the Parkway for the biggest concert of the summer. The Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld Fund along with the Elton John AIDS Foundation, presents Sir Elton John, Patti Labelle, Bryan Adams, Peter Nero and the Philly Pops, in a blockbuster concert performance. Fireworks follow the show.
