L.L. Bean Comes to Marlton, New Jersey
90-year-old apparel and outdoor equipment company opens its latest retail store in Marlton, New Jersey
Known to many only as one of the nation's largest catalog companies, L.L. Bean, headquartered in Freeport, Maine, has made a corporate decision to expand full-force into the retail area on the East Coast.
The company already has 13 smaller outlet stores, including one in Wilmington, Delaware, but this new retail store is only the third of its type opened by L.L. Bean outside of Maine. Other retail stores are located in Tyson's Corner, Virginia and at the Mall of Columbia in Maryland.

The free-standing New Jersey retail store has about 35,000 square feet of space. This is considerably smaller than the company's flagship store in Freeport, Maine which has more than 120,000 square feet of retail space. Still, this new store features many of the products that are the best sellers in the company's catalogues. Heavily featured are men's and women's apparel, footwear, backpacks and luggage, as well as a limited selection of camping and fishing gear.
If opening weekend business was any indication of future success, the store will be a major shopping destination for many in the Greater Philadelphia and South Jersey area. Check-out lines were long and business was very brisk throughout opening weekend.
