John Fischer's Philadelphia
Vol. 1 - Number 26 - 07/26/99

Saturday was a busy day. After seeing my wife's sister and her husband off, we headed to Camden to visit the New Jersey State Aquarium and Children's Garden. We'll be doing a feature on both, but let me just say that the Aquarium has made great progress in the past few years and is well worth a visit. If you have young children, this Aquarium is very child friendly, much more so than the National Aquarium in Baltimore.

I was very impressed by the staff which were located throughout the building and very eager and able to answer questions. I was particularly impressed by the Aquarium's huge Open Ocean Tank which can be viewed from several different locations on the first floor.

I actually ran into a few folks from the plaintiff's bar with whom I've settled some claims.

Did you all catch the story on the press wires on Friday about Vice-President Al Gore's canoe trip down the Connecticut River in New Hampshire as part of a campaign visit? It seems that someone on the Vice-President's staff was a bit concerned that Mr. Gore's canoe might hit water that was too shallow, so the Connecticut River Joint Commission opened a dam and released about 4 billion gallons to raise the level of the river so Gore's canoe wouldn't get stuck in low water during a campaign visit Thursday. Here's a link to the full story.

The last time I checked, most of the states in the northeast were in a drought emergency. Four billion gallons, hmm? I sure hope that they got a good photo of the Vice-President, because the one thing he won't be getting is my vote. Oh, Al, here's a photo of my freshly spring seeded back yard for you. You see, I can't even but a bucket of water on my back yard. But I hope you enjoyed your canoe trip.

On a very serious note, a co-worker's 13 year old daughter is currently on the waiting list for a heart transplant at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia. Children's Hospital is one of the premier pediatric hospitals in the world. Check this link for more information on the Heart and Lung Transplantation Program at Children's Hospital.

My relationship with Children's Hospital began about 15 years ago when the daughter of a woman who worked for me was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia. I am well familiar with the miracles that are wrought every day at Children's Hospital.

If you have a chance and it is in your heart, please consider a donation to Children's Hospital.
