John Fischer's Philadelphia
Vol. 1 - Number 46 - 09/19/99
What a great weekend. Did you ever notice that the days immediately after a big storm are often some of the most beautiful days that you can see? Floyd certainly cleared and cleaned the air.
Saturday I attended a open house given by our manager at work. As is usual, I brought my digital camera with me and took photos of my co-workers and their families. When you are taking the photos, there are things that you really don't notice until you get home and take a closer look.
But, we live
in a visual world and especially here on the Internet. A picture can speak a thousand
words and suggest a thousand other questions.
For example, the photo on the left is of one of my co-workers. Normally she is one of the most pleasant people I know, but it seems that whenever I take a picture of her, I get very peculiar expressions.
I'm not sure what was said to her here to get this expression and I certainly don't want to guess what words were coming out of her mouth.
All day long
I spoke on and off to the person whose photo is on the right. But, until he was leaving
the party and walking away from me, I did not notice his pants.
Now, I have no idea of what that design is on those pants and I certainly have no idea of what you would call that color, but I can think of some possibilities, for sure.
Speaking of atrocious, did you all see that Eagles game yesterday. I think we would have been better off had the game been blacked out. Doug Petersen was ineffective and reports at half-time were that he had sustained a sprained shoulder. No one was sure whether it was the injury that kept him out of the game or his poor play.
First round pick Donovan McNab started and played the second half, but he faired no better against the tough Tampa Bay defense. The offensive line was so bad that McNab had no time to do anything against the rush that was constantly in his face. Until the Eagles can build a quality offensive line and keep it in place for a few years instead of a few days, this team will never again be a winner.
Like many other folks, I watched the Miss American Pageant last night on TV. Every year it seems, when the time comes to put those five finalists in order, it is my choice for 4th runner up that ends up winning the pageant. I would love to see the talent part of that competition eliminated and more emphasis placed on the interview and platform aspect of the contestants.
One of last night's finalists, Miss. Texas, I believe, is a singer. She sang a blues song in the talent competition. What struck me was that she was singing this sad blues number but smiling wildly the whole time. It just doesn't make sense sometimes.
The worst part of the show nowadays is the fact that the hosts are Donny and Marie Osmond. I just have never gotten Donny and Marie, especially Donny. I'd rather have Regis and Kathie Lee back.
