The Pleasurable Work Test

When taking this test be sure to remember that this is an "us" test not a "self" test. It is to be answered in terms of your family or your intimate community of close friends.

If you answer a question "That's us" score 2 points. If your answer is "Sometimes that's us" then score 1 point. If your answer is "That's never us" you get 0 points. Here are the questions:

  1. Does your family (including a significant other) look forward to your return home at the end of the work day?

  2. Does your family enjoy happy reports about wonderful experiences at work when you bring them home?

  3. Does your family know, understand, and appreciate what you do at work?

  4. Is the whole family interested in what you do at work?

  5. Would your family say you love your job?

  6. Would many in your family like to do what you do for a job?

  7. Does your family think that what you do is very helpful to others and the world?

  8. Is your family free of worries about your job security?

  9. Would your family say they are as important to you as your work and that you put in as much time with them as you do at work?

  10. Would your family say you work by your values rather than objectives, and work to make life better for everyone rather than just to make a better life for a few people?

Let's total your score:   _______

16-20 =              You have joyful, healthy work

12-15 =              You are in need of healthier, more joyful work

11 and below =  You are in urgent need of a healthier, happier job.
