| Maine Day 1999 | |
Marine Day '99 was held at Penn's Landing on Saturday, May 22, 1999. Marine Day is sponsored by the Maritime Exchange for the Delaware River and Bay, and was initiated by members of the maritime communities of Philadelphia, Camden and Wilmington to promote the ports and to highlight their importance to the region.
The anticipation is that the event will serve to increase public interest in the ports. Several vessels were open for tours including the T/V Kings Pointer of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, the USS Olympia, Topsail Schooner Young America, the Delriver, and USCG Cutter Mako.
In addition there was music provided by the U.S. Merchant Marine Precision Marching Band, the Philadelphia Boy's Choir and the Greater Kensington String Band. There were also demonstrations by the U.S. Marine Corps Silent Drill Team, The U.S. Coast Guard Search and Rescue, and the U.S. Customs Canine Corp.
All in all, it was a great day. Your Guide took numerous photos in order to share the experience with you. We hope that you enjoy them. If you do, be sure to make plans to attend next year's event.
