Celebrating the history of the nation's most historic city and the spirit of the event, the 2002 X-Games return to Philadelphia, PA, on Saturday, August 10, and will run through Monday, August 19. 2002.

This is the second year of a two-year commitment by the city and the ESPN X-Games to hold the events in Philadelphia, PA. Last year's events in Philadelphia were the first time in their eight-year history that the X-Games were held at both indoor and outdoor venues, and the first time since 1996 that the games were held on the East Coast.
The host committee has once again chosen the tag line "Freedom of Xpression" to honor the games, which are expected to generate 10,000 hotel room nights and $40-50 million for the city. More than 235,000 spectators flocked to the X-Games in Philadelphia last year.
The 2002 ESPN X-Games feature the world's best action sports athletes in seven sports: aggressive inline skating, bicycle stunt, downhill BMX, Moto X, skateboarding, speed climbing, and wakeboarding. In addition to the 350 athletes, more than 250,000 spectators and 800 members of the media will be in Philadelphia, PA, for the X-Games. In addition to the events at the First Union Complex, other venues throughout the region include Falls Road, the Grant Memorial on the Schuylkill River, the west side of City Hall, and Woodward Camp, in Woodward, PA.
All events are free and open to the public, including all events inside the First Union Center, which will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC Sports will combine to televise more than 25 original hours of X-Games VIII coverage starting August 15, while ESPN International will distribute the Games worldwide. In addition, www.EXPN.com will offer extensive coverage, including streaming video from the X-Games. ESPN International's 21 networks will distribute the event to more than 150 million households worldwide in more than 180 countries and 19 languages.
In the Philadelphia area, Comcast is providing numerous avenues of X-Games television coverage to viewers throughout the greater Philadelphia region. CN8 is featuring special one-hour editions of Lou Tilley's Sports Connection as well as full and on-going coverage of X-Games build-up, behind-the-scenes action, profiles and athlete interviews. Comcast SportsNet is featuring news and updates of all the action at the First Union Complex, including regular in-depth news coverage on SportsNite.
