The Philadelphia Orchestra tests the acoustics in their new home, The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts' Verizon Hall. The $265 million cultural and architectural landmark, with acoustics by Russell Johnson of Artec, Inc., is set to open to the public on December 16, 2001.

Workers put the finishing touches on the brand new, glass-domed Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, as media tour the $265 million cultural and architectural landmark. The Center officially opens on December 16, 2001. The public opening will be preceded by two nights of gala preview concerts featuring Elton John, Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Emanuel Ax and The Philadelphia Orchestra.
