CruisePhilly
Until recently residents of the
Philadelphia and South Jersey metropolitan area who wished to take a cruise for their vacation were faced with the problem of
having to travel to another city to embark on a cruise. Those days have now
passed thanks to a $15 million upgrade to the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal at
Pier 1, located on the site of the former Philadelphia Navy Base. This fall
Philadelphia will host 16 cruises from five major cruise lines. Already 23
cruises are scheduled to depart from Philadelphia in 2004 along with 7 cruises
which will make port calls in the city.

Louis Archbishop Chosen to Replace Bevilacqua
St. Louis Archbishop Justin Rigali has been named by Pope John Paul II the
twelfth Bishop, eighth Archbishop of Philadelphia. The appointment was made
public at noon today in Rome. The Archbishop will succeed Cardinal Anthony
Bevilacqua, who reached the age of 80 earlier this month. Archbishop Rigali is
expected to be installed as Archbishop of Philadelphia in early October in the
Cathedral Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul.

All Began in Philadelphia
On July 4,2003 we'll
celebrate America's 227th birthday. From the rugged coasts of Maine and the
Rocky Mountains of the west, to the neighborhoods of Anchorage, Alaska and the
islands of Hawaii, families will watch parades, attend barbecues and ooh and ah
at evening fireworks. Independence Day is also the time that we should look back
and remember why and where it happened.

Constitution Center - A Review
A week before it's opening on July 4, 2003, I had the privilege of taking a
"hard-hat" tour of the new National Constitution Center (NCC) located
at at 525 Arch St. in Philadelphia's Independence National Historical Park. The
tour was conducted by Liz Barszczewski, Public Relations Manager of the NCC.

"Philly - You Just Can't Do It In a Day Hotel Package," allowing

Tour
The immense, castle-like Eastern State Penitentiary "an
institution once known worldwide for its system of strict silence" is about
to get a little louder. The 174- year old prison will take a step into the 21st
century with the "Voices of Eastern State" audio tour, to be launched
April 16.
