The Quaker City String Band was led by Captain Robert Shannon, Jr. and performed to the theme of "Adventures in Paradise." Quaker City finished second in the eighteen String Bands. Their Captain, Robert Shannon, Jr., finished in second place of the eighteen String Band Captains.
This was Bob Shannon, Jr.'s final march as captain of the Quaker City String Band. He is retiring after 37 years as captain of the band. The outpouring of affection for Bob was evident along the entire parade route as he stopped to receive the well wishes and thanks of his many fans. For 37 years Bob has been the face of the Mummers Parade to fans across the world.
