The inaugural installation in the Julien Levy Gallery is an exhibition devoted to the renowned photographer Alfred Stieglitz (1864-1946) entitled Alfred Stieglitz and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Stieglitz championed the emergence of the medium as an art form in the late 19th century and oversaw a series of galleries and publications that exerted tremendous influence on photography as well as on the advent of modernism in America.

The exhibit includes more than 50 works by Stieglitz, ranging from his student work in Europe in the late 1880s to the elegiac meditations on poplar trees at his family estate made in the mid-1930s.

The exhibition is divided into seven sections, encompassing the early work and gravures; portraits of artists; images of O'Keeffe and of Norman; landscapes made at the artist's family property at Lake George; the cloud pictures he titled Equivalents; views of New York City seen from the Shelton Hotel; and poplar trees at Lake George, along with a selection of studio portraits of the artist, photographs of his family, some of his gifts to Philadelphia-born photographer and activist Dorothy Norman and the collection of his serial portraits of Georgia O'Keeffe which were donated to the Museum in 1949.
