If reports from the cities which have hosted the production since its premier at Sydney's Acer Arena on January 10, 2007 are to be believed, it's something you'll always remember and will be glad you spent your money to see.
Walking With Dinosaurs - The Live Experience is a $15 million 90-minute arena production which is making its first North American Tour this summer and fall. Following it's stay in Philadelphia, the production will move on to Columbus, OH (Aug. 22-25), Atlanta, GA (Sept. 5-9), Greenville, SC (Sept. 12-15), Washington, D.C. (Sept. 19-22), Norfolk, VA (Sept. 26-30), East Rutherford, NJ (Oct. 3-6) and Winston-Salem, NC (Oct. 10-14).
Walking With Dinosaurs - The Live Experience is based on the award-winning BBC documentary, Walking With Dinosaurs. Directed by internationally renowned Scott Faris (Chicago, Siegfried and Roy at the Mirage), the show takes audiences back 220 million years to the age of the first dinosaurs as the arena itself evolves and changes to depict the various environments of this prehistoric world.
Through the eyes and narration of a Paleontologist, the only human actor in the show, the audience experiences the birth of dinosaurs and follows their evolution through the various eras of their existence on the planet Earth.
In a series of dynamic scenes recreating with almost cinematic realism the interactions between dinosaurs, the audience sees why the carnivorous dinosaurs evolved to walk on two legs, how the herbivores fended off their more agile predators, and the need for their unique defenses.
Dinosaurs are brought to life through technologies and techniques from the world of film, animatronics, conventional puppetry and physical theater. The creatures range in size from the small hatchling puppets, which appear out of a nest of eggs to the titans like the Brachiosaurus and, of course, the ferocious Tyrannosaurus Rex.
The larger dinosaurs are controlled by a team of operators consisting of two animatronic puppeteers who manipulate the beasts from a position in the audience, and a driver hidden below the animal who maneuvers it around the arena.
