Harnett, Peto and Their Accomplices: Trompe LOeil Paintings from the Collection
The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts presents examples of the virtuoso realist genre known as trompe l'oeil, French for to fool the eye. The pictures show the artists skill at rendering surfaces and three-dimensional objects so convincing that it fooled some viewers into thinking they were seeing the real thing rather than paint on canvas.
