Art of the Home
As the show enters its second decade, it is reinventing itself with the addition of an innovative new section, Art of the Home, which focuses on the house itself. As the craft market continues to evolve, now encompassing not just home furnishings, but the home structure and its components, as well, PFFS is leading the charge in this vibrant emerging market that blends art, architecture and artistry.Art of the Home is partnering with the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), to showcase a consortium of renowned residential architects, giving attendees the exclusive opportunity to meet and peruse their displays in an informal setting.
Adjoining the architectural section will be a very select group of builders, designers and product manufacturers offering artisan building services, beautifully designed interiors, and green-smart products, allowing those with a taste for quality and environmentally responsible construction that uses the latest in materials and design to have this thirst quenched at the show.
Art of the Home will be featured side-by-side with over 200 juried artisans offering a sophisticated level of hand-built furniture and furnishings.
Exceptional Work in Every Genre
PFFS will continue in its fine tradition of exhibiting a breathtaking overview of design, craftsmanship and fabrication, with items in a range of price points. From sleek, modernist steel shelving to Japanese ceramics to Arts and Crafts style cabinetry, PFFS showcases exceptional work in every genre; what we dont show are mass-produced items or anonymously-crafted home design accessories.Corporate Alliance for Drug Education Fundraiser
On Thursday evening, April 14th, the Corporate Alliance for Drug Education (CADE) will hold their annual preview fundraising event on the show floor. CADEs specialists provide guidance, education and prevention programs to 50,000 children faced with drug abuse and violence in their community. This years fundraiser will also function as the PFFS preview. The public is invited to join CADE, the media and sport personalities behind the velvet rope for dinner and cocktails. Tickets can be purchased directly from CADE at (610) 949-7464.
Student Design Competition
PFFS will once again highlight the delightful yet insightful work of high school students. The Student Design Competition is open to all public, private and parochial school students in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.Students are asked to create a three-dimensional object based upon the theme of "the chair," the results of which could be a functional chair, an impractical chair, a model of a chair, a chair designed for a specific purpose or person, or a traditional-looking chair created out of unusual materials.
The goal of the project is to encourage students to think creatively about the objects around them, working in threedimensional space. Perhaps more importantly, it will introduce them the potential for careers in crafts and the decorative arts, encouraging them to go on to university study and apprenticeships in these and related fields. Outstanding student designs will be recognized at an awards ceremony at the PFFS preview /CADE fundraiser on April 14.
