In response to the increasing urbanization and globalization of American society, Messiah College opened its small Philadelphia Campus in 1968 in a unique partnership with the large Temple University in which Messiah students can take courses at Temple.
Essentially, Messiah students have "dual citizenship," that is, they are recognized as full-time students at both institutions. Students must have sophomore status at Messiah College in south central Pennsylvania to qualify for attendance at the Philadelphia campus.
The Messiah College-Philadelphia Campus, a multi-faceted educational center, situates Messiah College in a major urban center with its ethnic, cultural, and academic diversity.
The mission of the Messiah College-Philadelphia Campus is to provide access to and enrich Christian higher education in the urban context, engage the wider academy, and address the challenge and potential of the urban world.
Messiah College-Philadelphia Campus is located on North Broad Street across from Temple University. The campus is comprised of several large town houses which house a number of services including, but not limited to student and employee residences, dining service, class rooms, a library, and a computer lab.
During the fall and spring semesters, this unique campus offers six courses in addition to those offered at Temple. Bible 200, Ethics,World-Views, Christian Beliefs, and cross-cultural courses are included in these courses.
Messiah College has 2,864 full-time and 52 part-time students total at both its main campus and in Philadelphia.
Messiah Collegehas 170 full time and 127 part time faculty total at both locations.
