Rowan University has evolved from its humble beginning in 1923 as a normal school, with a mission to train teachers for South Jersey classrooms, to a comprehensive university with a strong regional reputation.
Formerly named Glassboro State College, the school changed its name to Rowan College of New Jersey.in 1992 following a $100 million donation to the institution by industrialist Henry Rowan and his wife, Betty. At the time this was the largest gift ever given to a public college or university in the history of higher education.
The college achieved university status in 1997 and changed its name to Rowan University.
Rowan University is located in Glassboro NJ on a 200-acre campus between Philadelphia and Atlantic City. The campus contains 31 buildings, including eight residence halls and three apartment complexes.
