Swarthmore college was founded by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) as one of the nation's first co-educational colleges, Swarthmore today is non-sectarian, but still reflects many Quaker traditions and values.
Swarthmore is located 11 miles southwest of Philadelphia on a 357-acre campus that is a designated arboretum.
The College offers more than 600 courses a year and more than 50 courses of study; an exceptional honors program and individual special majors. Swarthmore offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Engineering degrees.
The most popular majors selected are: Social Sciences, Biological and Biomedical Sciences, English Language and Literature/letters, Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics and History.
Swarthmore has a small student body with just 1,484 undergraduates (707 men and 777 women, including 108 students studying abroad).
