UArts has evolved from two century-old institutions: the Philadelphia College of Art and the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts.
In 1985, PCA and PCPA joined to become the Philadelphia Colleges of the Arts, the largest comprehensive educational institution of its kind in the nation, preparing students for professional careers in design, fine arts, crafts, dance, music, and theater arts.
The University's campus spans Philadelphia's Avenue of the Arts (South Broad Street), the home to a remarkable groups of arts organizations and attractions.
The College of Art and Design at UArts offers degrees in Animation, Crafts, Film/Animation, Film/Digital Video, Graphic Design, Illustration, Industrial Design, Painting/Drawing, Photography, Printmaking/Book Arts and Sculpture.
The College of Performing Arts is comprised of the Schools of Dance, Music, and Theater Arts and offers degrees in Dance, Music and Theater Arts,
In 1997 the University added a new College of Media and Communication, offering degrees in Communication, Writing for Film and Television, and Multimedia.
The most popular majors are: Dance; Crafts/craft design, folk art, and artisanry; Graphic design; Illustration; and Photography.
