The last month of summer is all about living it up, and most of this month's events are based on food, drinks and music. This month features the delicious Victory BBQ Competetion and the Reading Terminal Market's Pennsylvania Dutch Festival. And lets not forget and that all-ages-rage-fest, the Philly Folk Fest which is in it's 51st year!

The 4th Annual Victory BBQ Competition: Victory Brewing company returns with this stellar BBQ competition. Teams compete to see who can concoct the best chicken and ribs while you enjoy the Victory Beer Garden. There is a children's play area to entertain the little ones as well as cooking demos and live music.

Northern Liberties 2nd Street Festival: Maybe the biggest summer festival Philadelphia has to offer, the 2nd Street Fest features 7 blocks of music, food, beer and crafts. This event is truly lots of fun for the whole family. Kids can look forward to a giant moon bounce and a half pipe in front of Exit Skate Shop.

Reading Terminal Market's Pennsylvania Dutch Festival: One of the things that makes the famous Reading Terminal Market so special is the contributions from the Pennsylvania Dutch. Celebrate the handmade crafts and food of the Pennsylvania Dutch and on the 11th the fair will move outside to recreate a country fair in the heart of the city.

First Person Arts Story Slam: Obsessed: The monthly infinitely amusing amateur story telling competition returns this month with the theme "obsessed," which guarantees some funny fodder for the would-be memoirists.

Concerts in the Park, Summer Series: Over the last 3 Wednesdays in August you can catch free concerts in Rittenhouse Square from 7-9. Bring a blanket and snacks and enjoy the spectacle that is Philly's social center in the summer.

Philadelphia Folk Fest: Can you believe this local music festival (I like to think of it as a mini-Woodstock) is in it's 51st year? You can take in the performances and crafts as a day trip or camp out all weekend and party every night. The Philadelphia Folk Fest is a must do for hippies at heart.

Schuylkill Banks Movie Nights: The last in the series, catch Moneyball on the Schuylkill Banks. Just in time for the MLB playoffs, Moneyball is the story of Billy Beane (played by Brad Pitt), a baseball manager forced to reinvent his team on a tight budget.

FDR Summer Concert Series: DJs Dani Mari & Reverend TJ McGlinchey have been hosting a monthly concert series. The final show is one August 31st. Take in the tunes and tour the park which features ball parks, tennis courts, BBQ grills, and a famous skate park. Arts, crafts and food will be available.
