What to do in Philadelphia in December

There are tons of holiday events this month. Christmas/Chanuka shopping shouldn't be a chore this year with these festive "winter markets." This weekend alone Peddler's Village, the Piazza at Schmidt's and Headhouse Square will be hosting holiday festivals featuring thousands of unique gifts.


Christmas Festival at Peddler's Village: This quaint town is the perfect place to get into the Holiday spirit. The village is decorated in victorian fashion, there is a christmas parade, mulled cider and excellent holiday shopping.

When: December 1st and 2nd

Winter Market: Santa Claus will be there and so should you. Hundreds of vendors will be on site for all of your unique gift giving needs.

When: December 2nd.

Where: The Piazza at Schmidts


Winter Wonderland: A holiday market, free horse-drawn carriage rides, dance performances from the Philadelphia Dance Academy, ornament making, Santa Clause and more at this Winter Wonderland event.

When: December 2nd

Where: Headhouse Square, 2nd Street Between Pin and Lombard Streets

The Philadelphia Episode of Anthony Bourdain's The Layover: I don't usually include T.V. shows under monthly events but be sure to tune in for this episode! This Chef turned travel channel star will bro down with some of Philly's best Chefs and tour the Barnes Foundation and the Mutter Museum.

First Friday: Philly's monthly open gallery event.

Just Breathe Yoga Night: Chillax before the holiday with mediation, yoga and breathing exercises in the gorgeous Great Hall of the Art Museum.

Army-Navy Football Game: This American tradition returns to Philadelphia for the 84th time. The game will be televised nationally by CBS.

Feast of Seven Fishes: Enjoy this decadent Italian tradition in one of Philadelphia's most elegant venues. Help yourself to a huge seafood buffet prepared by some of Philadelphia's top chefs while you take in a live radio show at this charitable event.

Scuba Diving Santa: The surreal spectacle of a decked-out Santa Scuba diving with sharks, giant turtles and other exotic sea life will wow adults and children alike.
