2004 Philadelphia Summer Camps Directory

Recreational and Educational Programs for Children and Youth

From John Fischer, for About.com

Mayor John F. Street together with the Department of Human Services, Philadelphia Safe and Sound, and the School District of Philadelphia have announced the availability of the 2004 Philadelphia Summer Camps Directory, featuring listings of hundreds of safe and fun recreational and educational programs for Philadelphia’s children and youth to enjoy all summer long.

"The summer season is already upon us and it’s the time of the year when parents start wondering how and where they can provide their children with fun, structured activities," said Mayor Street. "The 2004 Philadelphia Summer Camps Directory is a virtual treasure trove of information on everything from croquet courses to computer classes. It was important to capture all of these resources in one directory to assist parents in choosing fun, safe and educational opportunities for their children this summer. It was also important to remind our citizens that, even in the midst of tough economic times, this city cares deeply about its children and is continuing to provide a wealth of youth development activities to ensure that our city’s kids have a fun and educational experience this summer.

The exhaustive compiling of the information included in the 2004 Summer Camps Directory was a collaborative effort between the Philadelphia Department of Human Services, the Department of Recreation, the School District of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Safe and Sound. The directory features information on an amazing array of fun and educational opportunities including city swimming pools, golf and tennis camps, computer labs, dance classes, art camps and hundreds of other cool things to do on a hot summer day.

The 2004 Summer Camps Directory will be available at all branches of the Philadelphia Free Library, Recreation Centers and Health Centers. You may also request a mailed copy of the directory by calling the Department of Human Services at (215) 683-4DHS. An electronic version of the directory is available on the City of Philadelphia’s website.
