Celebrations and Events in Honor of Hannukah

From latkes and vodka to visiting the National Museum of Jewish American History, there are plenty of ways to celebrate Hanukkah in Philadelphia. In addition to these celebrations, many individual synagogues and Jewish groups hold their own special events, dinners, and even smaller scale parades. And of course, there are plenty of Christmas celebrations in Philadelphia during the month of December for those families who celebrate both holidays. Latkepalooza
When:
December 11, 2011
Where: U Arts, Hamilton Hall, 320 S. Broad St.

Enjoy gourmet latkes from several area restaurants including Bar Ferdinand, Estia, Talula's Garden, Tashan, Singapore Chinese Kitchen, Sabrina's, and Federal Donuts. Also features live music from the West Philly Orchestra. This kid-friendly event is sponsored by the Gershman YMCA.

Menorah Car Parade

When: December 20, 2011

Where: Eakins Oval (across from the Philadelphia Museum of Art)

More than 100 cars, limos, and trucks carrying lit menorahs on their hoods will travel through the city in a festive procession. The parade begins at Eakins Oval across the street from the Philadelphia Museum of Art at 7:30 p.m. and travels to 5th and Market streets where there will be a large menorah lighting and a celebration involving latkes celebration (what else?).

Hershel & The Hanukkah Goblins Show

Where: Painted Bride Art Center

Kids and adults will enjoy this stage adaptation of the popular children's book by the same name by Eric Kimmel. The Painted Bride Theater brings it to life in an engaging story that celebrates Hannukah in a fun and accessible way.

Moo Shu Jew Show

Where: Joy Tsin Lau, Chinatown

There is nothing like Chinese food on Christmas Day. Enjoy Jewish-inspired stand-up comedy and a Chinese meal during this show sponsored by the Gershman Y. The food will consist of a sampling of dishes from many of Chinatown's best restaurants.

This fabulous event at the National Museum of Jewish American History includes music, food, children's activities and so much more, offering a great way for those who do not celebrate Christmas to spend the day.

South Jersey Car Menorah Parade

When: December 25, 2011

Where: Chabad Center, Cherry Hill, NJ

Menorahs will be placed atop cars at 4:30 p.m. at the Chabad Center. The parade will depart from the Chabad Center at 5 p.m. and will end up at Saharah Sams Water Park at 6 p.m.
