FDR Skate Park was born as a result of the City's desire to eliminate skateboarding in LOVE Park near City Hall.

Faced with outrage from skakeboarders, the City set aside 16,000 square feet beneath I-95 in South Philadelphia for a new skateboarding park.

Unsatisfied by the City's own constuction, skateboarders jumped in and improved the City's design to include a much more challenging venue with better bowls, hips, ramps and attitude. There have been many ups and downs but the skate park has established itself as one of the best in the USA. As proof of this, in July of 2005, the park hosted the skateboarding finals in the 2005 Gravity Games.
