The episode opens with Sarah and Karamo discussing Karamo's father and race relations. Karamo realizes that it's the parents of many of his friends who were the ones who fought against civil rights in the 50's and 60's. The discussion continues with Landon. Landon explains that he roomed with a black guy in college, but he always felt Landon was talking behind his back. Karamo feels that Landon makes statements sometimes that he finds offensive, but he lets them slide. Karamo talks to Shavonda about being out of his comfort zone in Philadelphia. He doesn't want to come across as the angry black guy. He doesn't need to be bullying or causing false problems.

Karamo talks to his mother on the phone and he worries that his mind is shutting down. MJ wonders what is up with Karamo. He feels that Karamo needs a support system and he is willing to be there for him.

Shavonda calls her father and asks him to send some money until they get their jobs. Everyone else wants to go out to eat, but she has no money. Her dad promises to send $150-$200 later in the week when he gets paid. Shavonda wonders about her dad, who she says is never home and is not a very good dad. Sarah gets very sad about Shavonda's family life and is amazed that Shavonda has turned out so beautifully.

As the housemates prepare to go out a few nights later, Shavonda calls her dad to see if he has sent any money. She cannot reach him, so she calls her ex-step mom. She is even more frustrated by having no money. Her ex-step mom tells her that she will try to get hold of Shavonda's dad and see what's going on. Shavonda vents to Sarah again about her dad. Sarah tells her that she and Willie will cover her diners, not as charity, but because they appreciate her company and they are doing it out of friendship. Later, Shavonda receives a call from her step-mom that her boyfriend and she will be sending her some money to tide her over.

MJ, Landon and Karamo go out for a guy’s night out at a local bar. MJ talks about his experiences working in the projects. Karamo tells Landon that he got upset the other day when Landon mentioned the N word when telling a story. Landon feels that Karamo does not respect him even though he has a lot of respect for Karamo. Karamo realizes that he distrusts white people but that he is trying to work on it.

While he's standing at the bar, a group of Philadelphia police officers approach Karamo and start padding him down. He calls out for MJ but MJ doesn't hear him. Apparently the police received an anonymous tip that Karamo had a gun. Karamo is furious at the treatment by the police and also furious that MJ was flirting with a girl and didn't hear him call out to him. Finally MJ notices the commotion and comes over, but Karamo is already involved in a heated discussion with the police who try to explain to him that someone probably saw his microphone holder and thought it was a gun holster.

MJ tries to calm Karamo down, but Karamo sees this as MJ badgering him and telling him that he is overreacting to the situation. Karamo and MJ get into a heated discussion. This is not the first time that this has happened to Karamo and he is very upset. He won't let MJ get a word in edgewise and MJ walks off since Karamo will not listen to him. Karamo feels that MJ has let him down and is not one of "his boys." MJ says that he just wants to be there for Karamo, but Karamo won't allow it.

Karamo gets back to the house and explains what happened to Shavonda and Melanie. Meanwhile MJ and Landon walk home and MJ explains to Landon what happened. Landon feels that Karamo will not let anyone in.

MJ and Landon arrive home as he is explaining what happened. MJ again tries to approach Karamo but Karamo will still not let MJ talk. Karamo tells MJ that this has happened to him over 20 times in his life. Karamo feels that until you've been in his shoes you can't understand his situation. MJ is frustrated that everything seems to come back to race with Karamo. MJ tries to offer Karamo a handshake of friendship, but Karamo just walks away and goes outside to pray.
