Touring Philadelphia by Land and by Sea

Established Tours Joined by Numerous New Offerings in 2005

From John Fischer, for About.com

This summer more visitors than ever and locals are coming into Philadelphia. One of the things that everyone is noticing is how many different ways there are to explore Old City and other popular spots around Center City.

Just several years ago, there were only one or two options for guided tours. Locals and visitors pretty much had to grab a map at the Visitor Center and head out on their own. Today there are guided tours on land and on the water and several tours that offer a combination of both.

An exciting new addition this year offers a once in a lifetime chance to ride on a Segway® Human Transporter. The Segway® was the invention that the inventor predicted would change the world. Well, that hasn't happened yet, but more and more businesses and municipal governments are using these transport devices, so who knows what the future holds.

Old City used to go to sleep at 6:00 p.m. but this summer there are several tour options that actually rely on the evening hours for their success.

Let's take a look at some of the options available this summer in Philadelphia:
