The best place to begin any visit to Independence National Historical Park is at the new Independence Visitor Center at the corner of 6th and Market Streets. From September through July the Visitor Center is open from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, 7-days-a-week. From July through September the Visitor Center is open from 8:30 am - 7:00 pm, 7-days-a-week. It is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.

While at the Visitor Center you can view the 28-minute film Independence. You'll also find a number of orientation exhibits, a daily listing of area events, informative touch screen computer kiosks, and most importantly park rangers and volunteer staff who can answer questions and help you plan your visit. Free maps and other useful literature is available.

Most importantly, here is where you need to pick up your free timed ticket to visit Independence Hall. If you plan on touring the National Constitution Center, try to get a ticket for about 3 hours later in the day. If not, take the next available tour leaving at least an hour to get through security and visit the Liberty Bell Center.

Also within the center are restroom facilities, the Pennsylvania General Store where you can enjoy a snack while you plan your visit, and the Independence Store that offers a variety of souvenir and gift items.

Exit the Independence Visitor Center by the side door on the east side (left side as you face the front entrance).
