From the northwest corner of City Hall, cross 15th Street and JFK Boulevard to get to John F. Kennedy Plaza, known locally as Love Park. The famous LOVE sculpture by Robert Indiana stands proudly at its center. The crooked “O” in the bright-red letters that spell “LOVE” is said to be there to remind us that nothing, including love, is perfect.
The sculpture was installed for the city’s bicentennial in 1976 and quickly became an iconic image of the “City of Brotherly Love.” The plaza is also home to the Fairmount Park Welcome Center, a round, glass structure where you can stop for information about the Fairmount Park system and to visit the gift shop.
