The United States Navy Band provided superb music at the Let Freedom Ring Ceremony on Independence Mall including a wonderful tribute to the officers and sailors of the USS Cole who were in attendance.

The United States Navy Band is the Navy's premier musical organization in Washington, D.C. which includes 162 enlisted musicians and four officers. Twenty-four musicians made the trip to Philadelphia to perform on Independence Day.

The Navy Band Ceremonial Unit performs at official military ceremonies and special events. Directed by Master Chief Musician Jeffrey C. Myers, the band's drum major, the group performs at memorial services in Arlington National Cemetery, and is augmented by other band members to present honors for visiting dignitaries at White House and Pentagon ceremonies. Depending upon performance requirements, the unit is staffed from 15 to 99 pieces. Musicians rotate ceremonial responsibilities with concert performances to support over 1,300 official ceremonies annually.
